Quote of - March 8, 2025

The only thing worse than being blind is having sight but no vision.

Context

Helen Keller, who experienced the world without physical sight, speaks to a deeper form of blindness that can affect anyone. Physical blindness is a limitation of the eyes, but having "sight but no vision" is a limitation of the spirit and the mind.

"Vision" here means the ability to see beyond the immediate, to imagine a better future, to have a sense of purpose and direction. A person with 20/20 eyesight but no vision merely drifts through life, reacting to events without shaping them. They see what is, but cannot conceive of what could be.

This quote challenges us to use our inner sight. It suggests that the greatest poverty is not a lack of resources, but a lack of aspiration and the creative imagination to guide our lives toward meaningful goals.
