The wise man does not lay up his own treasures. The more he gives to others, the more he has for his own.

Context

Lao Tzu reveals a paradoxical principle of the universe: hoarding leads to scarcity, while giving creates abundance. The foolish person seeks security by accumulating and protecting possessions, status, and knowledge for themselves alone.

The "wise man," understanding the flow of energy, practices radical generosity. He knows that knowledge shared grows clearer, love expressed returns multiplied, and resources circulated create prosperity for all, including himself. This isn't a transactional giving, but a recognition that we are part of an interconnected whole. The "more he gives," the more he participates in the cycle of creation, and thus, the "more he has."

This quote teaches a spiritual form of abundance. It suggests that true wealth is found not in what we keep, but in what we give away.
